Polymer lightning arrester, also called surge arrester, uses the good nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics of zinc oxide, the current flowing through the arrester at normal operating voltage is extremely small (microampere or milliampere level); when the overvoltage acts, the resistance drops sharply, and the energy of the overvoltage is released, to achieve the effect of protection. The difference between this arrester and the traditional arrester is that it has no discharge gap, and uses the nonlinear characteristics of zinc oxide to play the role of leakage and breaking. If protection fails or is missing, a lightning will strike an electrical system, which generates thousands of volts that damage transmission lines, moreover, it can cause serious damage to transformers and other electrical equipment.
