This is a sophisticated outdoor high-voltage protective device known as a Drop-out Fuse Cutout, expertly designed for seamless integration with distribution transformers or lines. Its primary function is to safeguard against short circuits and overloads, ensuring the smooth on/off switching of current loads. The Drop-out Fuse Cutout consists of robust insulated supports and a durable fuse tube. Static contacts are securely mounted on each side of the insulator support, while the moving contact is affixed to the ends of the fuse tube. This tube is ingeniously crafted from an internal arc-extinguishing core, enveloped by an outer phenolic compound paper or epoxy glass tube. The load-switching fuse cutout is enhanced with elastic auxiliary contacts and an arc-extinguishing chamber to precisely manage the on-off loading current.
Under normal operating conditions, the fuse link tightly secures the fuse tube in a closed position. Should a system fault occur, the resulting fault current causes the fuse to melt instantly, creating an electric arc. This arc heats the arc-extinguishing tube, generating high-pressure gas that propels the arc along the tube. Once the fuse link melts, the moving contact is released, which disengages the mechanism, allowing the fuse tube to drop, transitioning the cutout to an open position. For switching off under load conditions, an operator can use an insulating bar to pull the moving contact. Initially, the main contact remains engaged with the auxiliary static contact. As the pull continues, the auxiliary contact separates, generating an electric arc, which is elongated and eventually extinguished by the arc-extinguishing chamber, effectively quenching the arc as the current passes through zero.
