Power High Voltage Current Limiting Polymer Drop-Out Fuse Cutout: Advanced Load Break Protection for 33kv-36kv Systems

The drop-out fuse cutout and load switching fuse cutout serve as essential outdoor high voltage protective devices. Seamlessly connected to distribution transformer feeders or lines, their primary function is safeguarding transformers and lines against short circuits and overloads, while efficiently managing current load operations. Constructed of insulating insulator supports and a robust fuse tube, the cutout integrates static contacts fixated on insulator supports and dynamic moving contacts at the fuse tube ends. The fuse tube itself comprises an internal arc-extinguishing tube encased in an outer shell of phenolic compound paper or epoxy glass. The load switching fuse cutout is reinforced with flexible auxiliary contacts and an arc-extinguishing enclosure to manage on-off load currents seamlessly.
In normal operations, the fuse link secures the fuse tube in a closed position. Upon fault detection, the fault current causes the fuse link to melt promptly, generating an electric arc that heats the arc-extinguishing tube, releasing a burst of gas. This results in high pressure and dynamic movement within the tube. Once the fuse link melts, the moving contact loses tension, triggering the mechanism to unlock, allowing the fuse tube to disengage, thereby opening the cutout. For load switching, operators use an insulating operating bar to disengage the moving contact. Initially, both main and auxiliary contacts remain connected, with an electric arc forming between auxiliary contacts during separation. This arc extends in the arc-extinguishing enclosure, dispersing gas to extinguish the arc as the current passes zero.
