The Drop-out Fuse Cutout and Load Switching Fuse Cutout serve as essential high voltage protective devices for outdoor use. These crucial components are integral to connecting with the incoming feeders of distribution transformers or lines. Their primary function is to safeguard transformers or lines against short circuits, overloads, and manage current on/off loading. The Drop-out Fuse Cutout consists of insulating supports and a fuse tube, where static contacts are mounted on either side of the support, and a moving contact is affixed to the fuse tube's ends. The tube itself is made from an inner arc-extinguishing layer, enveloped by a durable outer phenolic compound paper or epoxy glass tube. The Load Switching Fuse Cutout enhances functionality with auxiliary elastic contacts and an arc-extinguishing enclosure, facilitating the seamless on-off of loading currents.
Under normal conditions, the fuse link secures the fuse tube in a closed position. However, should a fault occur, the resulting fault current promptly melts the fuse, igniting an electrical arc. This activates the arc-extinguishing tube to generate a high-pressure gas explosion, effectively extinguishing the arc along the tube. Once the fuse link melts, the moving contact loses its tension, unlocking the mechanism and allowing the fuse tube to drop out, shifting the cutout to an open state. During any required cutout switching, the operator uses an insulating operating bar to pull the moving contact. Initially, the main contact remains engaged, but as the auxiliary contact separates, an electric arc arises, which is swiftly elongated and extinguished by the arc-extinguishing enclosure, particularly as the current nears zero.
